How the inspection enquiry works

- We review your enquiry. We’ll check the information and contact you within 12 hours. If we need photos or anything else first, we’ll let you know.
- We allocate the most suitable inspection officer. Where an inspector is available for your area, we’ll connect you with them and arrange the next step.
- Your inspection is arranged. Your inspection officer will confirm the appointment details and any final preparation needed.
Official self-containment information
For the official New Zealand requirements and national records, you can also use these resources:
- National Self-Contained Motor Vehicles Register – check self-containment certification and find Certification Authorities.
- PGDB guidance for private vehicle owners – current green-warrant requirements and certification information.
- PGDB Self-Contained Vehicles information – information about the national self-contained vehicle system.
- Self-Contained Vehicles Regulations 2023 – the current regulations.
- PGDB Motor Vehicle Inspections Notice 2023 – the official inspection notice.
Remote inspections
In-person inspection is the normal approach wherever reasonably possible. In exceptional circumstances, such as where a vehicle is in a rural or remote area with no reasonable access to an in-person inspection, a remote inspection may be considered case by case. The same self-containment requirements still have to be properly assessed.
Fill out the form above first and we’ll advise the best option for your vehicle and location.
