Practical Requirements – Checklist for Self Contained Certification

As easy as one, two, three, four, five.  To get ready for your Self Contained Green inspection, your vehicle must have these basic requirements:

  1. Water Supply System –  stored in a ventilated, opaque, and secure container.   Industry guidance is that this should be at least 12L of fresh water per person for 3 days.
  2. Wastewater System – Grey water storage with external ventilation.  Industry guidance, not law, is that the wastewater is the same size or larger than the fresh water.  
  3. Fixed Toilet – Permanently installed, with a minimum of 3L per person.
  4. Sink – Connected to wastewater storage with a trap, available for handwashing and dishwashing.
  5. Rubbish Storage  Secure rubbish container with a lid.  Industry guidance is that it should be a sealable storage container with a minimum of 1 litre per person per day for 3 days.  
  • Ventilation System – Via windows, fan, or openable vents.
